COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP BY GOLDEN BALANGAY FOUNDATION AND KABANGKA
The Filipino-Canadian National Community Leadership Scholarship is awarded to students with outstanding community service and leadership dedication. This scholarship recognizes individuals who have made a meaningful impact in their communities through volunteer work, civic engagement, or social advocacy.
Specific requirements: Personal statement outlining personal background, personal qualities and virtues, extracurricular experience, demonstration of their leadership, and contribution to their community. Include up to five (5) proof (s) of the impact of their extracurricular activities on their community.

The Filipino-Canadian National Arts and Culture Scholarship is awarded to students with exceptional talent and dedication in arts, music, theatre, dance, or cultural studies. This scholarship recognizes individuals' creativity, passion, and commitment to enriching their communities through artistic expression or cultural initiatives.
Specific requirements: Submission of a creative project that celebrates the National Filipino Canadian Scholarship Program. For the 2024 Scholarships, the creative project will be the creation of a logo for the National Filipino Canadian Scholarship Program. Provide a backgrounder on their creative project (100 words max). Include the following: a portfolio describing up to five (5) pieces of your creative art or performance in the submission and a personal statement outlining your background, qualities and virtues, arts and culture experience, and interests and motivations.

The Filipino-Canadian National First Generation Scholarship is awarded to students whose parents have not participated in post-secondary education. This scholarship supports Filipino Canadian students who will be the first in their families to pursue higher education by alleviating some of the financial burdens associated with accessing post-secondary education.
Specific requirements: Personal statement outlining personal background, personal qualities and virtues, parent’s educational background, interests/motivations and expectations in pursuing higher education. Provide proof that the parents have not participated in post-secondary education studies. The applicant must provide a signed affidavit by the applicant and parents indicating that the parents have never undergone any post-secondary education studies and a copy of the parent's most recent education diploma or transcripts.

The Filipino-Canadian National Academic Excellence Scholarship is awarded to students who have demonstrated exceptional aptitude in their education, as evidenced by their academic performance at their current educational institution. The scholarship recognizes the student's academic achievements and encourages their continued efforts throughout their academic years.
Specific requirements: Personal statement outlining personal background, personal qualities and virtues, interests/motivations and career goals. The applicant must provide their latest transcript or grade report showing they have maintained a CGPA/grade average of A and above equivalent (e.g. latest transcript). An optional requirement to further demonstrate their aptitude for academic excellence, the applicant may include up to 5 copies of their awards and certificates about their education.

The donor can establish the criteria and guidelines for the new scholarship, tailoring it to specific needs or goals they want to support in addition to the existing basic criteria. This option is perfect for donors looking to leave a lasting legacy by creating a scholarship that reflects their unique vision and values. A long-term commitment is preferred for this option.
Golden Balangay Foundation (GBF) is a registered national not-for-profit organization established in 2020. GBF will continue to expand the mission and vision of the Golden Balangay Awards. With the best of the best in the Filipino-Canadian community at its helm, the Foundation will develop programs that will benefit the community in addition to the Golden Balangay Awards. The Foundation embodies the belief that education, community engagement, and providing a platform for thinkers and achievers to gather and connect can uplift the community and the next generation of Filipino Canadians.
Kabangka is a registered not-for-profit, youth-led, and youth-centered leadership organization. The founding of Kabangka began with the establishment of Pinoys on Parliament (POP) in 2018. POP emerged as the first and the only nationwide conference for Filipino/a/x-Canadian youth. Since its inception, POP has welcomed over 1,000 delegates from all provinces and territories across Canada. With Pinoys on Parliament as its flagship program, along with other initiatives, the organization aims to create a space for Filipino/a/x-Canadian youth to network, learn new skills, develop existing ones, build connections, inspire action and empower young people as leaders in their communities.
